Of Mothers and machines: Stories of technocratic birth

CENTRAL SAINT MARTINS, LONDON | June 2019

Of Mothers and Machines is a series of short stories based on the speculative artificial womb technology of XX Biosystems, a fictional company that offers alternative birth services to aspiring parents. The stories explore the various ways this technology might impact different groups, from couples exploring surrogacy to those who lack financial access to the ‘safest’ birth technology, and the unintended consequences of the complete medicalization of birth.
